Both married same-sex couples and registered domestic partners in California  must end their relationships through a court procedure. This doesn’t mean that you actually have to go to court—many people take care of the legal aspects of ending their relationship by submitting paperwork for what’s called an “uncontested” dissolution, without ever appearing before a judge.

If your relationship is ending, you may need information about your rights, coaching as you negotiate with your partner about dividing your property or sharing time with your children, or help preparing the necessary court paperwork.
